Throwback to last spring and a classic Frankfurt c Throwback to last spring and a classic Frankfurt cider tavern lunch (#pressinvite). We sat in the sunny courtyard of @apfelweinwagner, the Apfelwein (Frankfurt‘s sour, flat, very potent cider) flowing freely, and were treated to a selection of starters and this jaw-dropper of a main course. The pork sharing platter comes piled high with knuckle, shoulder on the bone, ribs (both spare and baby back) and sausages and is served with sauerkraut and mashed as well as fried potatoes. The sort of meal that soaks up all the booze more than adequately, but immediately makes you feel like need a bit of a lie down after 🍏
I moved to Germany thirteen years ago - I don’t I moved to Germany thirteen years ago - I don’t remember the exact date but it was around about now - and see cute half-timber buildings every single day, but I will never grow tired of sights like this. Zum Krug is a 300-year-old hotel/restaurant/winery I’ve wanted to go to for a very long time and walking past it for the first time a couple of weeks ago made me want to go even more. I’ve got a birthday next week if any of you fancy taking me? Thanks 😌
A standup Saturday market lunch of Fränkische Bra A standup Saturday market lunch of Fränkische Bratwurst (pork sausage Franconian style, seasoned with a combination of some or all of marjoram, coriander, pepper, nutmeg and/or allspice), sauerkraut, a couple of slices of sourdough, and the obligatory mild yellow mustard. Not pictured: some chips I stole off my kids.

I’m desperately trying to get my newsletter back I’m desperately trying to get my newsletter back on schedule, so here’s the one that should have gone out last Tuesday 😬 Lots of inspiration in there for where to see Germany in its spring finest, including the best spots for cherry blossoms and a flower show at a palace in which famous paintings have been recreated with some 40,000 flowers 🤯 Have you got any favourite spots for spring blooms? A couple of daffs have come up in our garden, but I’m not sure that counts.

P.s. Paying subscribers - genuinely astounded that I have any, THANK YOU! - will be receiving my personal Berlin food recs on Friday 👀
